PERSPEX GLASS

Need Perspex in Newcastle? Call Koala Glass for supply and installation throughout the Hunter, Maitland, Lake Macquarie, Nelson Bay and Morisset.

What Is Perspex?

Perspex is an adaptable, durable alternative to glass and comes in many colours. It is a transparent thermoplastic that is often used in sheet form, however, it can be supplied in a wide range of shapes, sizes and textures. A range of finishes — such as gloss, frosted and pearlescent — can be applied, making Perspex ideal for a range of aesthetic uses.

How Is Perspex Used?

Perspex can be used for a huge variety of applications. Also known as Lexan, acrylic plastic or polycarbonate plastic, it can be custom cut to suit any job.
Popular uses include:
  • Boat Windscreens
  • Caravan Windows
  • Horsefloat Windows
  • Machine Guards
  • Countertops
  • Shelving
  • Display Cases
  • Skylights

Perspex also has a range of business uses, including weather-resistant signage, window glazing and shatter-proof retail displays.

How Is Perspex Made?

Monomer, or an acrylic polymer, is placed between two sheets of glass and exposed to a chemical reaction in ovens and water baths. The desired finishes are then applied, and the Perspex is cut to any thickness and shape during the manufacturing process.

Is Perspex Safe?

Yes. Perspex is a shatter-resistant alternative to glass and is a safe option for use around children and animals. It also has excellent UV-protection properties, which also makes it a popular choice for framing artwork or for the construction of display cases to protect valuable items.
