Clear Glass

Clear glass is by far the most common, and widely used style of glass. Clear Glass is available in a variety of thicknesses:

  • 2mm, 3mm, 4mm, 5mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm and thicker. These sizes are all available in float glass
    • 2mm usually for picture frames
    • 3mm to 5mm typically used to glaze windows (4mm and 5mm toughened are suitable in doors when the rebate is shallow, or toughened glass is preferred)
    • 6mm, 8mm and 10mm are typically used for table tops and shelves and depending on the support under the glass, toughened glass may be required.
  • 4mm, 5mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm and thicker are also available as a toughened glass, which is a Grade A safety glass. Toughened glass has a very high impact resistance on it’s surface and when broken will shatter into many tiny pieces, which is less likely to cause a major injury.

  • 5.38mm, 6.38mm, 8.38mm, 10.38mm, 12.38mm and thicker. Laminated safety glass is another type of Grade A safety glass comprised of 2 layers of glass with a PVC interlayer. Laminated glass will typically break but hold together.

With the right type of clear glass, it is suitable for a wide variety of applications, including glazing of window panes, door panels, sidelight panels, low-level windows and more.
